JYP's first girl group debuted with "Irony" in 2007. This guide follows the changes from the original Sunye, Yeeun, Sunmi, Sohee and Hyuna line-up to the addition of Yubin and Hyerim, the No. 76 Hot 100 entry for "Nobody," the 2015 band album Reboot, the 2017 disbandment and the members' later work.

Wonder Girls were the first girl group of JYP Entertainment, the company founded by singer-producer J.Y. Park. They debuted in February 2007 with the single "Irony" and closed ten years of activity with the farewell single "Draw Me" on February 10, 2017. The debut line-up was Sunye, Yeeun, Sunmi, Sohee and Hyuna; Hyuna left and Yubin joined in 2007, Sunmi paused group activities and Hyerim joined in 2010, and in 2015 Sunye and Sohee departed while Sunmi returned, leaving a four-piece band of Yeeun, Yubin, Sunmi and Hyerim. "Tell Me" (2007) and "Nobody" (2008) were back-to-back hits, and in October 2009 "Nobody" became the first song by a Korean act to enter the US Billboard Hot 100, at No. 76.

On January 26, 2017 JYP announced the group's disbandment, and Yeeun and Sunmi left the company. Yubin, Sunye, Sohee and Hyerim discussed the possibility of a reunion in a YouTube video in July 2025. Sunmi released "Forever July" on July 15, 2026, while Sohee said in a video released in March 2026 that she was focusing on acting.

## What was Wonder Girls, and who were the members?

Wonder Girls were a JYP Entertainment girl group discovered and produced by J.Y. Park, debuting in February 2007 with the single "Irony." The original five were Sunye, Yeeun, Sunmi, Sohee and Hyuna. In the debut year Hyuna (later of 4Minute) left and Yubin joined; in 2010 Sunmi paused group activities and Hyerim came in. In July 2015 Sunye and Sohee officially departed, Sunmi returned, and the group became a four-piece of Yeeun, Yubin, Sunmi and Hyerim. The Korea Herald noted that the members' average age at debut was 16, and Xportsnews summarized the changes at the time of the disbandment as "generations one through four." [1,9,10,17,21]

## How big were "Tell Me" and "Nobody"?

On November 25, 2007, Segye Ilbo reported that "Tell Me" had averaged at least seven weeks at No. 1 across major weekly online charts. Wonder Girls released "So Hot" and "Nobody" in 2008. In February 2017, TenAsia published a retrospective covering the group's music from "Irony" to "Draw Me." [2,3]

## When and how did they chart on the Billboard Hot 100?

In 2009 the group announced a push into the US market and released an English version of "Nobody." On October 22, 2009 Yonhap reported that "Nobody" had entered the Billboard Hot 100, the main US singles chart, at No. 76 — the first entry on that chart by a Korean act. The Korea Herald wrote in 2018 that No. 76 remained the highest Hot 100 position for a K-pop girl group until Blackpink surpassed it, and a 2024 Herald column again recorded Wonder Girls as the first K-pop group to chart on the Hot 100. Looking back in 2015, Newsis noted that the group's US activities afterward were hampered by the financial crisis, among other factors. [5,7,8,10,22]

## Reboot in 2015 and "Why So Lonely" in 2016

On August 3, 2015 Wonder Girls returned after three years and two months with the third album Reboot, performed as a band in which Yeeun, Yubin, Sunmi and Hyerim played their own instruments; at the showcase the members called it "a completely new start." "Why So Lonely," released in July 2016 and written by the members, topped the Gaon Chart's third-quarter digital chart that year. [10,11]

## Why and when did they disband?

On January 26, 2017, JYP Entertainment announced that Wonder Girls would disband following discussions with the members. Yubin and Hyerim renewed their contracts with JYP, while Yeeun and Sunmi left the company. The group released its final digital single, "Draw Me," on February 10, the tenth anniversary of its debut. Pickcon reported that it led the Mnet, Bugs Music, Olleh Music and Soribada charts as of 8 a.m. that day. [12,27]

## What have the members done since disbandment?

- Sunmi. She continued her solo career with "Gashina" in August 2017 after leaving JYP. On July 15, 2026, she released the digital single "Forever July." [15,24]
- Yeeun (HA:TFELT). In April 2017, she signed with Amoeba Culture as the solo artist HA:TFELT. [26]
- Yubin and Hyerim. Their JYP contracts expired in January 2020. Yubin founded the agency rrr Entertainment, and Hyerim signed with it in March 2020. [16,17]
- Sohee. After leaving the group in 2015, she worked as the actress Ahn So-hee. In a video released in March 2026, she said she was focusing on acting and had finished performing in the play Geuttaedo Oneul 2 (그때도 오늘2) the previous month. [9,19]
- Sunye. She left in 2015. In July 2025 she appeared with Hyerim and Sohee on Yubin's YouTube show and said fans kept asking about a comeback. [9,18]

## Will they reunite?

The reunion discussion reported by Xportsnews on July 7, 2025 did not include a specific schedule for group activities. On Yubin's YouTube show in July 2025, Yubin said that watching 2NE1's concert made her imagine Wonder Girls on stage again, and Sohee said that "if everything lines up, we'd have fun doing it." Those were expressions of the members' wishes, not an announcement of plans. [18]

## Who played which instrument in the band?

At the 2015 Reboot showcase, Yeeun played keyboards, Yubin drums, Sunmi bass and Hyerim guitar. Yeeun said the band grew out of the members learning instruments and playing together. The album contained 12 tracks, and the members participated in writing the songs other than the lead single, "I Feel You." [10]

## What came between "Nobody" and the band's Reboot?

Wonder Girls released "2 Different Tears" in 2010, followed by "Be My Baby," the lead single from their second full-length album Wonder World, in November 2011. "Like This" followed on the EP Wonder Party in June 2012. TenAsia's 2017 retrospective identified "Like This" as the last promotional single featuring both Sunye and Sohee. [2]
